Hello and thank you for visiting Sunshine Parenting!
I’ve been married for 23 years to my best friend and am blessed to have five great kids (ages 14-24) call me “Mom.” I’m also a summer camp director, where I have had the privilege of working with thousands of kids, college-age counselors, and parents for over 30 years. I follow the research and trends on parenting, education, and children’s development.
When my kids started leaving for college, I got jealous of their course choices and decided to go back to school myself. In May, 2015, I received my Master’s degree in Psychology from California State University, Fresno. I loved being back in school and was a lot more engaged and interested than I was when I got my undergraduate degree at Stanford in 1988. For my master’s, I focused on positive psychology and, of course, the impact of camp experiences!
If I had more time, I’d have even more hobbies, but my current favorites are running, reading, and writing. If you say you’re “not a runner,” I bet I can convince you otherwise! 🙂 I get about half my books “read” while driving around listening to them on Audible. And I do most of my writing right here at Sunshine Parenting, but I also am a regular contributor to Camping Magazine.
I like to read books, take classes, go to conferences, talk with educators and parents, share ideas, and learn. I think there are a lot of different ways people raise great kids, but there are also some common themes that can help guide us. My goal at Sunshine Parenting is to share tips and information that help me and other parents raise happy, healthy, independent, responsible kids. I also want to make sure that everyone in the world knows about the many benefits of camp experiences. I’d love your feedback and links to ideas you have. Read any inspirational books or heard any great speakers? Let me know! Email me with your input and ideas, or comment on my posts here on my blog.
Thanks for reading and enjoy your kids today!
