The Power of Showing Up

Book Review

The most important thing we can do for our kids is show up for them.

Whether or not you had a parent or care giver who helped you feel safe, seen, soothed, and secure (the 4 s's) when you were a child, you can provide secure attachment for your children. This book explains about secure vs. insecure attachment in childhood and what that translates into in adult behavior.

As The Power of Showing Up so beautifully articulates, secure attachment is key to being able to form positive adult relationships. Even if you didn't have secure attachment yourself, there is a path to being able to provide it for your children. But it requires work.

As you read The Power of Showing up and learn about the personality traits of adults who were insecurely attached as children, you'll recognize people you know. Understanding the importance of attachment (what I've always called "connection") is so important as a parent.

In fact, it's the most important thing we do for our kids - show up for them.
