Finish a Project

Today is Day 10 of my Happiness Hacks series.

Finish a Project - Happiness HackI don’t know about you, but I tend to have multiple projects going on at once. I’m just not a linear project kind of gal. My computer desktop and open tabs are a dead give-away that I’m not great at sticking with one thing from start to finish, all in one sitting.

Typically, I start a project thinking I’ll have enough time to finish it, but I underestimate how long it’s going to take. I need to be somewhere else or do something else, so the project gets left unfinished. In fact, I end up with several projects that are almost finished. It kind of drives me crazy. Each of those projects hangs over me, reminding me how I’m almost done.

I started working on my first Sunshine Parenting newsletter about a month ago. I even called it “September News,” confident that I would most definitely finish it and send it out in September. But, alas, September flew by and with all that was going on (trips, birthdays, work), the newsletter kept getting shoved to the bottom of my priorities.

But today I finished it! And I experienced, once again, the wonderful feeling of getting something done! One of the reasons I actually like doing laundry or cleaning up the kitchen is that, once it’s done, I can look around and say, “I’m finished.” Most of my other tasks and projects are on-going, so I rarely get that same sense of accomplishment.

Of course, I had to enlist the help of my husband, who is much more technically savvy than I am. But since giving help is another important happiness hack, maybe I helped him feel happier today, too!
